Skinningrove

Whenever I see my mate Rob up in the North East I can be sure he will bemoan the fact we never really explored the area in the three years we lived here as students. On the one hand it's understandable, we were students. On the other hand I'm a photographer and he really, REALLY, loves rocks - se we ought tp have gotten out and about a little more for sure. That said, even if we had I can't imagine we would have ventured to Skinningrove; the lore of those times certainly suggested it as a bit of a 'hills have eyes' kind of a place. A local village for local people.

All of which is a real shame, because as I have grown up I have found myself more and more often in this little village sandwiched between the Cleveland way and the North Sea - and I can fully attest that the locals won't eat you; in fact they are very friendly. I know that there are more photographs I need to take there, so if you find yourself liking the look of the place check back here from time to time to see how the collection progresses.

Teesside

The Transporter Bridge in Middlesbrough200

By Teesside I mean the massive conurbation that is Middlesbrough, Thornaby and Stockton; the urban industrial North East.

Without fully realising it at the time I left my parental home aged 18; I thought I was just going away to study at the Polytechnic in term time, but I never again lived full-time with any of the parents. Aside from a couple of years in SE Asia and Birmingham, Teesside became my home for the next 20 years or so. Given that yo might have expected to see more images in this album - but my relationship with photography changes over the years; but you can read all about that in the Cameras of My Life article... Certainly making grand images of the Teesside Indutrial Landscape would never have been 'me'; I'm much more about the fine or intimate details we see (or neglect to see) around us. That said, the area does deserve more photography from me I think, and now I'm back in the North East maybe it will get it - although the little villages in and around the North Yorkshire moors are currently way more appealing.

You can though see here another shot of Teesside from my collection of darkroom prints, the frankly awesome Transporter bridge.
